The Balkans
Building Unity Across the Balkans
In a region shaped by deep cultural, national and religious differences, Christian leaders are building relationships that cross traditional divides. Movement.org is helping bring leaders together to address the challenges facing their cities and pursue Gospel-centered change across the Balkans.

Demographics
Evangelical Christians comprise only about 0.002% of the population of the Balkans, making evangelical Christianity a very small presence across much of the region.
Orthodox Christianity remains the dominant religious tradition across much of the Balkans, though religious identity is often closely connected to national culture and family tradition rather than active religious practice.
Youth unemployment remains a major challenge across the Western Balkans, exceeding 20% in several countries and limiting opportunities for the region’s next generation.
Nearly one-quarter of people born in the Western Balkans now live outside the region, as continued emigration contributes to population decline, an aging population and workforce shortages.
